Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC) Policy

Cancer Biome and Targeted Therapy recognizes the importance of responsible oversight and communication of Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC). DURC refers to research that is intended for legitimate scientific or public health benefit but could reasonably be misapplied in ways that may pose risks to public health, agriculture, the environment, or security.

Authors must disclose whether submitted work involves materials, methods, data, or experimental approaches that may raise DURC or biosecurity considerations.

The editorial team may, when appropriate:

• Request additional information, ethical approvals, or institutional oversight documentation
• Seek guidance from relevant biosafety, biosecurity, or subject-matter experts
• Evaluate whether the benefits of publication outweigh the potential risks associated with the dissemination of the findings
• Decline publication when responsible communication of the research cannot be adequately ensured

The journal supports responsible research oversight consistent with guidance from the US National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) framework and the World Health Organization (WHO).
